LAHORE - It seems as if PML-N legislators have surpassed police in their rude behaviour, and interestingly enough, the police have become their victim.
Following the foot prints of Minister Prisons Ch Abdul Ghafoor, who is notorious for taking fights with policemen, two more PML-N MPAs, Pir Ashraf Rasool and Ali Asghar Manda turned violent against police a few days back over some unknown issue, and a report was also registered against them with the Sharaqpur Police Station on Friday.
It is to be noted that Abdul Ghafoor has a record of quarrelling with police officers, and now police are collecting record of previous complaints registered against him with different police stations following his recent misbehaviour with Custom officials at the Lahore Airport.
It is worth mentioning that five reports had already been registered in various police stations of the City against Ch Abdul Ghafoor for threatening and misbehaving with the police.
The complainant police officials in their reports alleged that the minister had misused his powers and treated the on-duty officers roughly.
The report against Pir Ashraf and Asghar Manda has been registered for threatening the DPO Sheikhupura and misbehaving with him over a minor issue.
A police officer said that on May 18, Inspector General Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar paid a surprise visit to the Sharaqpur Police Station, Sheikhupura where DPO, SP Investigation and two PML (N) MPAs Ashraf Rasool and Ali Asghar also reached.
The police in its report (No 21) stated that as soon as the IGP left the police station after listening to the complaints of the people, the DPO Sheikhupura and SP Investigation called an emergency meeting to review law and order situation.
The said two MPAs also participated in this meeting and as the meeting progressed, Pir Ashraf Rasool exchanged hot words with the DPO Sheikhupura over a minor issue. The DPO warned him, but the MPA continued misbehaving with the police officer. The other MPA Ali Asghar who was also present there started supporting his colleague.
The DPO left the police station when MPA Ashraf taking undue advantage of his political position threatened him of dire consequences.
A few minutes later, both the MPAs also left the station but to re-appear with scores of PML-N activists, who raised slogans against the police and in favour of the MPAs.
The incident took place at a time when five reports had already been registered against another PML-N MPA and Punjab Prisons Minister Ch Abdul Ghafoor in Raiwind, Manga Mandi and Naulakha police stations of the provincial capital.
Senior police officers have now decided to take up the issue with the Punjab government citing the misbehaviour of the minister and the most recent incident of two PML-N lawmakers’ rude attitude with the police officials.
