Kvitova upsets Sharapova to win Wimbledon womens title
The newcomer played as if she belonged, and by the time this one-sided womens final ended, Maria Sharapova was not the only Wimbledon champion on the grass of Centre Court. Petra Kvitova had never played a Grand Slam singles final before, but she gave barely a hint of her inexperience or nerves, closing out the first set by holding serve at love and then closing out the match by doing the very same thing. She finished off Sharapova, the 2004 Wimbledon champion, with an ace. Only then after winning, 6-3, 6-4, in one hour and 25 minutes did she begin looking nervous as she had to handle the post-match interview on court.
