Fawad stars in Champions League title victory

KARACHI - Fawad Alam bowled and batted imperiously to clinch the coveted Pakistan Champions Cricket League crown for Al Noor Gymkhana which defeated much fancied Khyber Green Fata by seven wickets in the final here under floodlights on Saturday night at bursting to seam capacity crowd at Rashid Latif Cricket Academy ground in Korangi.

Leading the winners in the crucial match, Fawad Alam first took two wickets for 22 as the Fata team made a disappointing total of 114 in 20 overs and later hammered 54 as the Al Noor Gymkhana raced to 115 for three on the first ball of the penultimate over.
Al Noor Gym medium pacer Junaid Zia destroyed Fata batting with four for 27 which paved the way for the winners to take the trophy away from the opponents who were expected to do much better and provide entertainment to the fans. But the Fata batting line up sadly flopped and made the final a one-sided affair.
Federal Minister Oversees Pakistanis Dr M Farooq Sattar gave away the winning trophy to Fawad Alam. Also present on the occasion were Sindh Ministers Raza Haroon, former captain of Pakistan cricket team Rashid Latif, MNAs Iqbal M Ali, Administrator DMC Malir Dr Mukhtar Palejo and Administrator DMC Central Nazeer Lakhani.
Fata team, however, had the consolation of taking the best batsman award of the tournament which went to Saeed Khan Afridi who scored total of 383 runs hitting 25 sixes and 28 fours. Fawad was named best player with 296 runs and 11 wickets.
Rehan Afridi took the best wicketkeeper of tournament is Rehan Afridi with 17 behind the wickets, the best fielder of tournament was Ashraf Ali (9 catches), the best bowler of tournament was Tariq Khan (19 wickets). Special shield of this tournament was given to chief organizer Syed Asif Husnain and Rashid Latif.
A total of 564 players from 13 countries - Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Indonesia, Iraq and South Africa - competed in the age group tournament for under-11 to under-19.
