Published: October 07, 2008

LAHORE - The announcement of Pakistan team for the Canada's Four-nation T20 Tournament has been delayed for one day and team would be named today.
It has been learnt that controversial fast bowler has succeeded in finding a soft corner among selection committee members but star batsman Mohammad Yousuf failed to impress in his stride during the RBS T20 Cup.
PCB Director Media Mansoor Suhail informed that the team will be announced today. "The selection committee required more time to see the players perform in the T20 Cup and after consultation with the board the team would be announced on Tuesday," he added.
When contacted the chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed said that they wanted to see the players from close quarter particularly their fitness and their performance for the format of the game they were to play.
On Shoaib Akhtar, he said that he has bowled very well on placid wicket and was accurate. He even bowled some sharp deliveries which is quite impressive.
It is surprising to note here that Akhtar in his opening match conceded 30 runs with one wicket in the Peshawar Panther's 14 runs win and in his second match was to the line with one wicket.
The chief selector said that he has been working hard and have shown in his two matches. But his views on Mohammad Yousuf were negative.
"You have to do something to prove your worth for the format. Yousuf need to perform for T20 version," he added.
"We are watching the players performance and the final team will be announced today," he added.
The tournament will be played from October 10-13 in Toronto. And as reports suggested that a debate is being going on the selection of Akhtar and Yousuf and some other players.
Members of National Selection Committee assessed the overall performance of players participating in National Twenty20 Event and finalised the list. Selection Committee and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Shafqat Naghmi had a long chat on team selection on other day.
According to sources, all rounder Shahid Afridi, Rao Iftikhar and Abdul Rauf's inclusion in the team also came under discussion, while name of Anwar Ali, Fawad Alam and Muhammad Hafeez were also under consideration. Captain Shoaib Malik and Geoff Lawson were also consulted in this connection.
Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Host Canada will take part in the event.
