ISLAMABAD - NBP, Sindh, Army and Wapda qualified for the men’s semi-finals of the Fourth Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Badminton Championship which is currently underway here at Rodham Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex on Friday.
IPC Minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani, Pakistan Badminton Federation president Nazar M Gondal and DG (Tech & Training) PSB among others were present on the occasion.
In the first quarterfinal, NBP beat Police 2-0. Rizwan Aazam beat Tahir Shah 21-8 and 21-8 while Rizwan and Kashif beat Tahir and Zahir 21-10 and 21-17. In the second quarterfinal, Sindh beat HEC 2-0. Ahsan Zaman beat Hafiz Imran 17-21, 21-17 and 21-14 while Ahsan and Imran Mehmood beat Hafiz Imran and Azim 22-20, 22-24 and 21-17. In the third quarterfinal, Army beat Punjab 2-0. Awais Zahaad beat Waqas Zahid 21-14, 13-21, 21-14 while Awais and Sherazi beat Waqas and Shabbir 24-22, 22-20. In the fourth quarterfinal, Wapda beat AJK 2-0. Umar Zeeshan beat Nabeel Akhtar 4-21, 21-12 and 21-16 while Wajid and Hashir beat Nabeel and Nadeem 21-14 and 21-5.
In the boy’s u-16 singles quarterfinals, Moqeet beat Habib 21-10, 21-17; Raja Hasnain beat Umair 21-13, 18-21 and 21-18; Komail Naqvi beat Sheroz Liaqut 21-14 and 21-12; Akif beat Hozeefa 21-11 and 21-12.
In the boy’s u-19 singles quarterfinals, Khalid (KP) beat Sajid Ali (Islamabad) 21-18 and 21-15; Subhan (HEC) beat Moqeet Tahir (Punjab) 21-15 and 21-17; Amir Saeed beat Hammad 21-12 and 23-21.
