ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Billiard and Snooker Association (PBSA) had issued show cause notices to three top national cueists Shahram Changazi, M Asif and M Sajjad for talking to media during the recently-concluded National Snooker Championship held in Karachi.
When this scribe contacted the players to have their point of view in this regard, they said: “We just pointed out the bad state of affairs in the championship. First of all the championship was scheduled to be held in Islamabad, later we were told that the championship was being shifted to Karachi. The organisers choose Karachi Creek Club as the venue of the event which was a horrible blunder on part of the organisers as the club is situated besides the sea and the humidity and playing conditions are not favourable for the players that is why defending champion Imran Shehzad, Sharjeel Mehmood and Shoail Shahzad could not even go beyond pre quarterfinal stage.”
An inside source told this correspondent that such was the pathetic condition of the table that when Sajjad was potting black ball at a very crucial moment against Shahram, the hole in the table force the shot wide which left Sajjad stunned.
One of the players told this scribe that they regularly lodged protests with secretary during the event but no heed was paid.
“We just pointed out flaws in the championship. We don’t want to diminish the PBSA but just want to improve the playing conditions and our genuine demand is to provide jobs to the top players and that can only be done when the PBSA gets affiliation with the POA,” he concluded.
