PARIS - French Open organisers are optimistic that Sunday's blockbuster men's final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will be completed on schedule despite heavy rain expected to swamp Paris.
"We are optimistic enough that the final will be finished even if we cannot avoid the rain," tournament director Gilbert Ysern said.
"There will be showers in the afternoon but between the passages of rain we should be able to play tennis. There's a good chance that we will not have to come back on Monday."
The last time the French Open men's final was delayed was in 1973 when the tournament was completed on Tuesday. Nadal, who will be chasing a record seventh Roland Garros title, said he had no worries over the weather.
"If it rains, then it rains and we play Monday," said Nadal. "I heard there was a chance of rain, but I am thinking about playing on Sunday. If not, I will come back on Monday."
