ISLAMABAD - Pakistan No 1 squash player Aamir Atlas Khan started the $15,000 Royal Lake Open 2013 Squash Championship at Kuala Lumpur on a winning note but faced tough resistance from the local lad before finally overcoming fighting Addeen Ideakie 3-2 in the first round match played on Wednesday.
Aamir was seeded No 4 for this prestigious event, but he was taken down the wire by unseeded Addeen came back very strongly and posed a serious threat before going down fighting. Aamir won the first game 11-9 and won the second in the same fashion. But Addeen was not ready to go down without giving Aamir a real run for his money. Addeen won the third game 11-8 and then completely outclassed Aamir in the fourth to win the game 11-4 and took the match into fifth and deciding game. Aamir used his experience and played superb squash taking the game 11-6, thus booking a place in the quarterfinals against Paul Coll. Pakistan has another youngster Tayyab Aslam in the quarterfinals as the Pakistani beat countryman Adil Maqbool 3-0 to book a place in the quarters against Ivan Yuen of Malaysia. Tayyab won the encounter 11-5, 11-5, 11-5.
