LAHO RE The Mohammad Asif-Veena Malik dispute took an ugly turn on Tuesday when the cricketer and his former girlfriend filed complaints against each other for fraud in a civil court. The court of a senior civil judge has directed the police to conduct an investigation and report back whether cases should be filed against the two. I have said in my complaint that despite my reminders, Asif is not paying back my loan of nearly 14 million rupees and also gave me cheques that have been bounced. The court has ordered that a case be registered against him, Veena, a popular actress, model and television host said. Asif, however, denied the charge. I have asked the court to find out how two cheques that were stolen from me in February and about which I have filed a police report, were in her possession and who forged my signatures on them as verified by the bank, the bowler said. Asif said he had also filed a complaint with the civil court and wanted justice. I owed Veena Malik around 3.2 million rupees and I have paid her loan off, Asif said. I want to know who is committing this fraud. But I want to know the truth and I am fed up of these allegations, it is most unfortunate, Asif said. Both Asif and Veena appeared before a senior police official on Tuesday as the police began investigations on the orders of the court. A Pakistan Cricket Board official said it was observing the whole episode from the sidelines as so far it saw the issue as a personal matter of Asif. But obviously if the matter goes to court and the board is involved then we will decide what to do. We wouldnt like our players to be involved in such unnecessary issues, the official said. PCB COO Wasim Bari said: We are watching the situation and if the bowler sought our help we would definitely help him out in the issue. We believe that Asif should settle the issue with the help of a mediator, he added.
