ISLAMABAD – Ashwin Vijayragavan of India defeated Aqeel Khan in the second qualifying round match of the UAE Men's F1 Fujairah T&CC Championship on Sunday.
Aqeel was defeated in straight sets by 6-4 and 6-4. Earlier on Saturday Aqeel defeated M Jannahi of UAE in straight sets 6-1 and 6-1. While talking exclusively with TheNation on Sunday from UAE, Aqeel Khan told this scribe that sand storm disturbed his game, which was the main reason for his defeat. Aqeel said that now he is focussing on doubles main round match against Goncalo Pereira (Portugal) and Cristian Rodriguez (Colombia) with his partner Abdullah Maqdas (Kuwait). Aqeel said that the main reason behind coming over here in UAE and participate in this event was to remain in shape and by contesting against top players will certainly help his cause a lot. Firstly, he wants to win the semi-final against Philippines and secondly to clinch the final of Asia Oceania Group II and take Pakistan to Group I, a determined Aqeel concluded.
