KARACHI - Former chief selector Salahuddin (sallu) on Monday urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appoint a media manager for the national cricket team.
“Pakistan needs a media manager to handle, both the electronic and print media. The players shouldn’t be involved - neither the captain nor the players so they can focus fully on the game.”
He recalled that Saeed Ajmal’s recent comments on his bowling action in the series against England were misunderstood.” Keep the players away from the media. Moreover, they should give interviews in Urdu, Punjabi,
or whichever language they feel comfortable with,” he told Pakpassion.net. #
Salahuddin also asked the board to appoint a vice-captain for the national cricket team. “The PCB needs to realise that a captain must be groomed. That is why appointment of a vice-captain is important. In home series it may not be necessary but in away series it is very important. The PCB should think about it. If Misbah-ul-haq retires, who will be the next captain?” he asked. Talking about the fast bowling, Salahuddin said: “We need to work hard on bowlers like Junaid Khan and Wahab Riaz. Aizaz Cheema should be thanked and let go as he is not young and cannot last till 2015. He bowls wide of the crease and his angle doesn’t trouble the right-handers.”
He said Pakistan needed to look at their Under-19 players or those who are doing well in the domestic cricket. Talking about the middle order of the team, Salahuddin said Usman Salahuddin deserved to be given a chance in the team. “If he works hard, along with Asad Shafiq and Azhar Ali, then they can certainly form a strong middle order for Pakistan,” he said.
