ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Olympic chef-de-mission Aqil Shah said that International Olympic Committee (IOC) has given go ahead to Pakistan contingent participation without national flag in their emergency meeting held in London yesterday, but they have also written a letter and urged the concerned authorities o make their house in order. Expressing these views at the oath-taking ceremony of Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) newly-elected office-bearers at Pakistan Sports Complex Media Centre on Monday, he pleaded for establishment of Pakistan Sports Authority which had the representation of provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan, let them decide who would be the chairman and all the units had the chance of chairmanship through rotation policy. Aqil said that the IOC constitution had the term restriction but the POA doesn’t have any clause of such kind, if the IPC or the PSB want to implement restriction then they must first amend the POA constitution. “We welcome the Supreme Court verdict on two-terms and fully support that, but the verdict has clearly indicated that the POA is not bound to implement these instructions,” he said. He also said that the PSB has no right to dictate federations as they must first tell them who had allowed them to have two DGs, first they implement rules and regulations and then ask others to do so. He said the POA president was elected through free and transparent elections for a term of four years, both losing candidates Qasim Zia and Gen (retd) Sahi had accepted their defeat and congratulated Arif. “The conspirators had to wait for the next elections. We would not support an unconstitutional move and resist any unlawful act.” Aqil announced a sum of Rs 100,000 RISJA fund and later he administrated the oath from the elected body office holders.
