CHI - The Pakistan Navy Sailing Championship concluded here at the Pakistan Navy aquatic club on Friday with an exhibition race.
The championship was contested in Laser-16 class of boats in four categories. About 150 participants including yachtsmen of international repute competed in the triangular courses laid out in Karachi harbour for the championship.
The enthralling competition of open category race was a source of excitement among audience. Endeavour for victory kept yachtsmen changing their position throughout the race which added thrill to the sport. Finally, Lieutenant Commander Zahid and his team (Representing MD Dockyard/PNS Peshawar) stood first.
The championship ended with the prize distribution ceremony in which Commander Karachi Rear Admiral Sayyid Khawar Ali was the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commander Karachi appreciated the efforts of PN Aquatic Club. He termed this championship a first step towards promoting sailing as sport. Admiral Khawar said that by achieving medal in Asian Beach games held in Qatar, Pakistan has set its course of success in sailing.
Overall results:
MD Dockyard/PNS Peshawar got first spot while PNS Rehbar/PNS Himalaya grabbed second spot and PNS Bahadur/PNS Rahnuma placed third.
