Siddle's parents rue not reaching Brisbane

November 27, 2010

PUNE (India) Peter Siddle was on fire in the first Test of the 2010-11 Ashes series in Brisbane and took a rare Test hat-trick. The day also happened to be his 26th birthday. So it was dual celebrations at the end of play. Sadly, his parents, father Stephen and mother Allison, missed watching his feat from the venue and celebrating his achievement with him as the teams final XI was not decided until the day earlier and therefore, they could not make it on time to the venue. We are certain to watch him play at Melbourne and Sydney, his father said. They had to content themselves watching his terrific performance in television from their residence. It was unbelievable. Watching the magic moment, his mother clapped, he expressed. This is the second time we have missed Peters terrific performance. We missed watching his debut Test wicket of worlds legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar (in October 2008). We were on our way to Mohali when he got Sachins wicket, his father added. Incidentally, Peter is not staying with his parents in Morewell but lives with his girl friend in Melbourne. The girl friend did go to Brisbane Gabba on the first day of the Ashes series. Peter grew up in Morwell, Gippsland and began playing cricket at the age of 14. Despite suffering a number of shoulder injuries which limited his playing opportunities, he now hopes to become a regular member in the Australian side. BIPIN DANI
