Rashid Pervez clinches Punjab Chess title



LAHORE – Rashid Pervez clinched the Punjab Chess Championship title after upsetting national master Amjad Hafeez Bajwa here at a local hotel on Sunday.
The final day was full of upsets as many ranked players were defeated. Mudassar Iqbal from Multan grabbed the third position while the favourite national master M Waqar and Dr Tahir Anees lost their games to Waseem Gul and Rizwan Durrani respectively.
Chess Federation of Pakistan President Chaudhry Altaf Ahmad gave away prizes to all the position holders. The top 10 players will represent Punjab in next National Chess Championship are: Rashid Pervez (champ), Amjad Hafeez Bajwa, Mudassar Iqbal, Waseem Gul, M Shafiq, Feroz Alam, Amin Zafar, Waqar Ahmad, Ahmad Awais and Baradus Salam. All the players along with the chief guest appreciated the efforts of Dr Naeem Hamid Mirza and Waqar Ahmad Madni for organising the event successfully and in a befitting manner.
