'Q' rebels oppose PPP inclusion in Punjab Cabinet

LAHORE - The PML-Q forward bloc is all set to take over the party command in Punjab Assembly by showing its majority while fully supporting the PML-N-led govt. They have also opposed the inclusion of PPP MPAs in the Punjab govt. According to sources, PML-Q bloc, also known as unification bloc, has put forward a minus-PPP formula in the formation of Punjab govt, holding the view that PML-N should not trust the PPP nor invite it for alliance in the set-up. They feel apprehensive about the members of PPP. The sources informed that the members of forward bloc led by its head Atta Muhammad Maneka would meet Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif at Raiwind on Thursday (today). In course of the meeting, the Q-bloc will demonstrate its actual strength. 'It is also expected that more PML-Q MPAs will join the forward bloc on this occasion. They will be the members other than the original 32 members of forward bloc,,the sources disclosed. The Forward Bloc reservations regarding PPP inclusion in the cabinet and Punjab government came soon after Shahbaz Sharif offered the PPP to join PML-N in Punjab. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani made a similar offer to Shahbaz Sharif to join the Federal govt. A member of PML-Q forward bloc requesting not to be named told The Nation on Wednesday that during the meeting with Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, 'we will express our reservations about PML-Ns likely alliance with the PPP. He hoped that PML-Q forward bloc would prove its size larger than expected. He said 'we have crossed more than the half of the strength to become Parliamentary party as our number has swelled from 48 to 51. Showing strong dismay, another senior leader of unification bloc said that it seemed that everything was being carried out according to the script carved out by some powers that had their own axe to grind. 'Offering an alliance to the PPP, Sharifs also want us to be part of the govt. If this had to be materialised what problem was there, with the tri-party formula presented by Ch. Shujaat, he regretted. He reinforced his point by saying that when Sharif brothers were disqualified and PPP had dislodged PML-N Punjab govt imposing Governor rule, the masterminds of the PPP had enticed PML-Q to join it offering Ministeries and other incentives. That was the golden chance, he said, to form alliance with the PPP and enjoy benefits of the govt. But we kept standing on principles and rejected all temptations, he maintained. However, he said that if the PPP was had good intention, it must remove Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, the main irritant, and other four Ministers who launched horse-trading to seize the power in Punjab. He said that Shahbaz clearly said in his public speech that he would never ever trust President Asif Ali Zardari at any cost in future due to latters misconduct and dishonouring of written promises. Now it is beyond imagination that he offered the PPP headed by Zardari for an alliance, he added. However, he said that if under any circumstances, PML-N-PPP alliance was forged, the member of PPP would never hesitate to damage the PML-N and this time their attack would be more lethal than last one. So it will be better for Sharifs to avoid alliance with PPP to secure their future, he added. When asked PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq replied that PML-Q forward bloc was time-tested friend and would be part of the govt in Punjab. Whether they like to make an alliance or merge with mother party, all rests on the leadership of unification bloc. He said that PML-N would hold a meeting at 90 Shahra-e-Quaid-e-Azam on April 4 and wide ranging of discussion would cover the issue of alliance. In the Punjab assembly the PML-Q had obtained 85 seats and is presently left with less 40 in total. According to the statistics, PPP total strength in Punjab Assembly is 107, PML-N has 169 seats, MMA two, PML-Functional three and four MPAs are maintaining their independence status.
