LONDON/FRANKFURT (Agencies) Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said there is no need of joint command between Pakistan and the United States regarding actions against Al-Qaeda and Taliban. Talking to a British news agency on Tuesday, the Foreign Minister called for enhanced cooperation and contacts between Pakistan and the US, saying that Islamabad could face difficulties if Washington did not consult with the former on its Afghan policy. Responding to a question on drone attacks, Qureshi demanded of the US to provide drones to Pakistan so that it could target militants. Drone attacks on Pakistani soil were counterproductive, he maintained. About relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Qureshi said both Muslim brotherly countries had to work jointly to resolve all outstanding problems. Answering a question, he said the democratic government of PPP was determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism, adding that no other country had sacrificed more than Pakistan in the war on terror. Monitoring Desk adds: Foreign Minister Qureshi said Pakistan would continue cooperation with German forces in Afghanistan. Talking to media men after a meeting with his German counterpart in Berlin, Qureshi said the international community including the US had lauded Pakistans role in the war against terrorism. Replying a question, Qureshi said he knew nothing about Taliban leader Mullah Omar, while everyone had been guessing about whereabouts of Osama bin Laden. He said the US should not leave Afghanistan for at least five years. Pakistan could cope well with extremism if provided with drone technology, he said. He urged the US not to quit Afghanistan until the mission was completed. Talking to BBC TV, Foreign Minister Qureshi warned that the surge of US troops in Afghanistan without Pakistans coordination would facilitate the militants easily pass over and create problems for it. Referring to the ongoing anti-militancy operations, the Foreign Minister said the entire world had acknowledged Pakistan determination to fight the militants. Talking to newsmen accompanying Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Qureshi said Pakistan was concerned about the negative implications of the new US strategy in Afghanistan and wanted better coordination between the US and the Pakistan Army.
