We will give extremely painful blows to the fanatic America: Hakimullah Mehsud

The Pakistan Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud, who was believed to have been killed in a US drone attack in January, has threatened attacks against the US in a video apparently made last month, according to the intelligence monitoring group SITE. The video comes in the wake of the attempted car bombing in Times Square, New York on Sunday and follows another video by Mehsud's terror organisation Tehreek-e-Talibn in which the group claimed credit for the failed attack. U.S. authorities have played down the potential connection between the Pakistani militant network and the car bomb, saying the group does not have the global infrastructure to carry out such a strike. Tehreek-e-Taliban frequently claim responsibility for terror attacks in which they have no involvement. In the nine minute video allegedly made on April 4, Mehsud, the man who was once Pakistan's most feared commander makes no specific mention of an attempt on New York but threatens strikes on the United States within a month for the killing of militant leaders. " The time is very near when our fidaeen (soldiers) will attack the American states in the major cities," says Mehsud, who is flanked by two armed and masked men. The attacks were in retaliaton for having martyred many of our great muslim leaders and many respected brothers from Al-Qaeda he adds, naming Baitullah Mehsud, his predecessor as the Taliban s leading commander in Pakistan who was killed in a US drone strike last August. According to SITE, the video bears the mark of Umar Studio, the media arm of Tehreek-e-Taliban, Mehsud s militant organisation. Mehsud was reported to have been killed in a US drone strike in Pakistan in January, but Pakistani intelligence officials last week said they now believed he had survived the attack. Mehsud, 30, was seriously wounded when missiles fired by a US drone struck his vehicle in the Shktai area on the border between South and North Waziristan on January 15. National television reported his death, saying that he was buried in the Orakzai tribal region, and days later a Taliban official appeared to confirm the reports, telling journalists that Mehsud died while being transported to Karachi for medical treatment. However last week intelligence officials from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan s intelligence service, said they now believed he had survived the attack with some slight injuries, although his power within the organisation had diminished. Another video allegedly from Mehsud s Tehreek-e-Taliban issued on Sunday claimed it was behind Sunday s attempted car bombing in Times Square, New York, although that claim has been dismised by US intelligence agencies. Tehreek-e-Taliban have previously claimed responsibility for a number of attacks that did not involve them. Mehsud said the TTP had already infiltrated the US. Our fidaeen have penetrated the terrorist America, we will give extremely painful blows to the fanatic America, he says on the video. He warned members of NATO and other allies to abandon the United States, telling them: You will face even worse humiliation, destruction and defeat than America itself.
