Achakzai for change in foreign policy

QUETTA - Convener All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) and President of Pashtoon Khawa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) Mehmood Khan Achakzai has termed 3rd November a historical day for the country's history when judiciary demonstrated courage and rejected to knee down before dictator. Addressing a press conference at Quetta press club on Sunday, he said that on 3rd November last deposed CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Ch outrightly rejected a dictations of unconstitutional ruler who imposed emergency in the country and sacked judges of the apex court, in order to prolong his rule. He said that lawyers rendered many sacrifices for the supremacy of law in the country. "Lawyers during their movement remained behind the bars and faced difficulties," he added. Lauding the efforts of people of Balochistan against the dictatorship, he said that people of this province observed strike when emergency was imposed by Pervez Musharraf. Achakzai said that country was confronted with serious crises including terrorism, economic deterioration and lack of unity among the four units of the federation, adding if these sensitive issues were not tackled seriously the situation would further aggravate. He regretted and said that a war had been imposed in the tribal area of the country where army was engaged with its own people. He said that rulers would have to change their foreign policy and conduct a round table conference and after consultation with all political parties a new foreign policy should be devised. He said that if we wanted to save Pakistan we should speak truth although truth was bitter but it was the only remedy to save the country.  "We would have to oust terrorists from our tribal areas and should not allow any country to violate our sovereignty", he added. APDM leader said that for the smooth running of the country democracy, elimination of role of army from the politics and right of ownership of people on their resources were inevitable. He said that although democratic government had been established but still national security council and 17th amendment were not eliminated and right of ownership of people on their rights were not accepted. Mehmood Khan Achakzai said that until and unless the federal government accept the right of ownership of people on their resources the problems would not be solved. Talking about the relief activities in quake-hit areas of Balochistan, he said that it was a natural disaster and hundreds of people were killed and injured while thousands became homeless. " Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Magsi and Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani belong to this province and they were well aware of problems of their people," he said and added that they should ensure that relief goods announced by donors for the affectees should be given to the real people and provincial government should not permit any body to misuse these funds.
