Abrar Saeed from Islamabad adds: The Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) could not take up the issue whether it would remain part of the Punjab government or walk out of the provincial cabinet as per the announcement of CO-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and an exclusive session of CEC would be called in next few days in this connection. The CEC meeting, held at Noudaro on Friday, was jointly chaired by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. According to sources privy to the deliberations of the meeting, Punjab issue or the political situation in the changed scenario after the restoration of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry did not figure in the meeting and some of the members just touched the issue of the judges and suggested detailed probe into the matter and chalking out future course of action. They said that most of the time was consumed by the members in paying tributes to Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and stressing to follow the philosophy of the partys founding father. The issue of Punjab did figure in the meeting but to the extend that the leadership of the party suggested holding of an exclusive session on the issue in the next few days and in this connection the formal schedule of the next CEC meeting would be announced soon. The sources in the party said that there was a sharp divide in the party leadership over remaining part of the Punjab cabinet and these leaders argued in favour of or against their standpoints. These sources said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani was the strong supporter for PPP and PML-N coalition government in Punjab as part of the greater reconciliation policy of the party to steer the country out of crisis and strengthen the political institutions in the country at all levels. However, some wanted to see PPP in opposition in the province while extending unconditional support to the PML-N government there. The sources said that during the meeting some of the leaders suggested to party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to examine the Punjab and judicial crises and fix responsibility on the people who ultimately led the party to humiliation and political damage. The sources were of the view that the upcoming CEC meeting would take up both the issues and would also decide whether it would remain part of the Punjab government or sit on the opposition benches. The party would also examine Punjab and judicial crises in detail and would also discuss the future course of action for the party to repair the damage accrued to it in the eyes of masses.
