Six oil company workers abducted

QUETTA-A team of police and other law-enforcement agencies have arrested more than 15 accused in connection with the kidnapping of a senior official of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), John Solecki. The police, however, failed to hunt down the culprits. Meanwhile, Six employees of an oil and gas exploring company were kidnapped in Machh on Tuesday. John Solecki a US national and head of UNHCR in Balochistan was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Monday while his driver was shot dead when he was heading towards his office at Chaman Housing Scheme Society. According to official sources, several suspects had been arrested in connection with the abduction of John Solecki and they were being interrogated. However, so far no progress had been made in this regard. The sources said that following the incident security had been beefed up in Quetta and other entrance and exit routes while security has also been intensified at the Pak-Afghan border to ensure that kidnapped official is not shifted to Afghanistan. A team of UN security and safety reached Quetta from Islamabad to conduct a probe into the kidnapping of senior official of UNHCR and collect information. According to sources members of US Federal Bureau of Intelligence Bureau (FBI) are also expected to arrive in Quetta in order to investigate the incident of kidnapping of John Solecki besides extending help to Pak agencies to hunt down the culprits. It may be recalled here that prior to this incident some Chinese officials who were working in Saindak Project were also abducted from Chaghi district of Balochistan and were shifted to Afghanistan by a religious organisation. The Chinese officials were released after some accomplices of kidnappers were released from a Pakistani jail. Meanwhile, six personnel of a private company which is working for the exploration of oil and gas in Margat area of Machh were kidnapped by unknown armed men on Tuesday. According to sources, six personnel of a private company were on their way in a vehicle in Margat, when unknown armed persons intercepted their vehicle and drove them to an unknown location. The abductees were identified as Abdul Qahir, Ali Muhammad, Ghulam Abbas, Zafarullh, Hafiz Khan and driver Noorullah. Meanwhile, spokesman of defunct Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) Beebarg Baloch calling from an undisclosed location claimed responsibility for kidnapping the six persons.
