Ban offers no comments on Pak envoy's letter

UNITED NATIONS - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has 'no specific response' to the letter sent by Pakistan's UN Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon on last week's terrorist attacks in Mumbai since it did not call for any action on part of the UN, his spokesperson said Thursday. "It is a general letter to the secretary general and to all member states," spokesperson Michele Montas told the briefing while responding to a question. "No action was required in the letter," she added. Ambassador Haroon in his letter urged the international community to play its role in averting a conflict in South Asia. It suggested that the US Secretary of State should be dispatched to the region in an effort to ease tensions on the Sub-continent, a mission that the top US diplomat has now undertaken. The letter also urged India not to widen the area of conflict. To another question, the spokesperson said that she was not aware of any letter sent by India on the Mumbai attacks.
