Militant outfits with new names banned

LAHORE - The Punjab government on Monday banned the already-declared outlawed organisations, which are said to be operating under new names across the province, and the police have been directed to initiate search operation in katchi abadis to nab suspects. According to a circular issued by the Punjab Home Department and despatched to the senior police officers of the districts, the Department beside re-banning 23 organisations, had included 1690 office-bearers whose names appeared in the 4th Schedule. The police has been directed to keep a vigilant eye on them. The DIGs and other senior police officers concerned have been informed about the organisations. The statement said Sipah-e-Sahaba had been operating under a new name Millat-e-Islamia Pakistan, Jaish-e-Muhammad as Khudam-ul-Islam and Tehreek-e-Jafria Islami under the Tehreek-e-Pakistan. Under the ban by the United Nations, three organisations Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Al-Rasheed Trust and Al-Akhtar Trust face three types of bans; that is, first, their heads, including Hafiz Muhammad Saeed cannot visit foreign countries, secondly, arms licences will not be issued and their bank accounts will be frozen. The circular also mentioned that 16 culprits behind the Data Darbar tragedy had been arrested, and investigations were underway.
