ISLAMABAD " Negotiations between the partners of the ruling coalition, which seemed to be making headway on Tuesday, saw many a flip-flop on Wednesday and could not make any headway on the impeachment of President Musharraf as news regarding the approval of the summary of reinstatement of eight judges of Sindh High Court by President of Pakistan had virtually torpedoed the parleys. Both sides could not recover from this damage of trust between them till late at night and the only positive thing was that they were clinging to the negotiations, giving hope to the survival of the alliance. The mistrust created by the move on reinstatement of the judges of Sindh High Court had offended the PML(N) Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif and his team and they left Zardari House empty-handed. Talking to newsmen, PML-N leader said that the nation would have a good news when leaders of both parties will address a joint Press conference today. Joint declaration of the coalition summit meeting will be issued at 11 am today while the joint Press conference will take place at 3 pm. Sources privy to the developments informed The Nation that the doves on both sides got into action and managed to dilute the situation emerging out of the move on judges by the President Musharraf and Governor Sindh. Later, Mian Nawaz Sharif visited Zardari House again and both went into another one-on-one round with Asif Ali Zardari, which continued till late at night and then both of them came to Punjab House where again both the leaders, joined by their aides, went into another marathon session to thrash out this fresh irritant, ostensibly floated by the establishment to mar the negotiations. Both the sides were in session in Punjab House till the filing of this report. The sources disclosed that the Prime Minister was also kept in the picture on the deliberations by these leaders, and added that both sides were optimistic about a positive outcome soon. Earlier, before coming to Zardari House in the afternoon, Mian Nawaz Sharif had held a breakfast meeting with party leaders at his Murree residence and discussed and weighed their options to get maximum from the negotiations with PPP, which on Tuesday culminated at the agreement of impeaching the President of Pakistan. Before the start of the second round of talks with the coalition partners, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari had a meeting with FATA MNAs and he took them into confidence about their expected move to impeach President Musharraf and to bring about other reforms. JUI(F) Chief Moulana Fazlur Rehman arrived here from D.I. Khan on helicopter to join the negotiations while ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan could not make it due to illness. However, in his meeting with Punjab CM Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Federal Minister for Information Sherry Rehman at Karachi late Tuesday night, he had reportedly given his support to the decisions made by rest of the coalition partners. Sources privy to the deliberations of the meeting informed that Moulana Fazlur Rehman aired caution over the impeachment move and said that before going for such an extreme move, the coalition government should have completed the proper homework. During the deliberations it was also suggested that before going for an impeachment, all the four provincial governments should pass a no-trust motion against President Musharraf and would force him to leave the office of the President himself. But the suggestion was not given much weight and a focus remained on impeachment and the ways and means to go about it. Sources said that everything was going smooth when all of a sudden, news came of the President giving an approval to the summary for reinstatement of eight judges of Sindh High Court by President of Pakistan. Mian Nawaz Sharif and his team members were annoyed over the situation and said that though for the sake of democracy they had put the issue of judges on backburners, it did not mean that they were withdrawing from their position on judges' issue. The PML(N) side stalled the negotiations and sought an explanation from PPP on the move by the Sindh Government and President of Pakistan on SHC judges before resuming the negotiations. Later, on the request of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Mian Nawaz Sharif, along with his aides, came back to Zardari House but both sides could not bridge the breach caused by the smart move on the judges' issue made by the President camp. Mian Nawaz Sharif was of the view that on one hand, PPP was going about impeachment of President Musharraf, while on the other, they were hands-in-glove with the President on judges issue. He made it clear that PML(N) could not withstand this dichotomy and asked PPP leaders to come clear on the issue and till that time, they could not sit on the negotiation table. Sources said that PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari had tried to convince Mian Nawaz Sharif and his aides that they were unaware of the move for the restoration of the SHC judges and termed it a ploy of the establishment to sabotage the four-party alliance and to create mistrust among the component parties. For the second consecutive day, the joint press conference by the leadership of both PML(N) and PPP could not be held due to the stalemate in the dialogue and media persons sat outside Zardari House in this hot and humid atmosphere waiting for the joint declaration from both these parties. Monitoring Desk adds: The government held in abeyance the notification regarding reinstatement of eight SHC judges late Wednesday night, reported a private TV channel. According to the channel, the oath-taking ceremony of these judges scheduled to take place at Governor's House in Karachi today has been cancelled. Several TV channels opined that the move showed that the talks between the ruling coalition have succeeded.
