PM reaches Saudi Arabia

JEDDAH (APP) - Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani reached here Sunday on a two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah and discuss ways to cement bilateral ties and regional situation with the Saudi leadership. Gilani was received at the airport by Saudi intelligence head Prince Muqrin bin Abdul Aziz, Pakistani Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Muhammad Naeem Khan and senior Saudi officials. His visit to Saudi Arabia is significant as it is rare that the Saudi government invites foreign dignitaries on official visits in the holy month of Ramazan, Naeem Khan said. He said the visit is the continuation of President Asif Ali Zardaris tour of the Kingdom in July and will focus on bilateral ties, economic relations and situation in the region. Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Senior Minister for Industries Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, KP Governor Barrister Masood Kausar and Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir accompanied Gilani. The prime minister is scheduled to hold talks with King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and discuss ways to cement bilateral ties. The envoy said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia desire peace and stability in the region and pursue a coordinated policy in this regard. He said the prime minister would assure King Abdullah of Pakistans full support to his initiative of interfaith dialogue. He said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy close relations and Gilanis visit will contribute to further strengthen the mutual cooperation in multiple domains between the two brotherly countries.
