KARACHI The intermittent sectarian target killing that has plagued Karachi claimed the life of Ahle-Sunnat-Wal-Jamaat (ASWJ) spokesperson on Wednesday when he was gunned down here in the Jamshed Town police precincts. Two people were also injured in the incident, which brought the death toll to six over the past three days in the City. Ehsan Ullah Farooqi, spokesman for the Ahle-Sunnat-Wal-Jamaat (ASWJ), was shot dead when he was returning after distributing press releases in different local offices of media organisations. SP Amir Farooqi said 32-year-old Maulana Ehsan Farooqi was getting back from a news conference at Mehmoodabad against the killing of a party activist the other day. As he reached near Gurumandar, his motorcycle got punctured which he took to a puncture shop on Patail Para Road for a repair. Farooqi said Ehsan called his friend Naeem and was sitting on a bench along with him when unidentified armed motorcyclists, appeared all of a sudden and let off a volley of gunshots at them. Resultantly, Maulana Ehsan Farooqi received four bullets and his friend Naeem two while the shopkeeper Nadeem also sustained bullet wounds. They were rushed to Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors pronounced Maulana Ehsan dead while the other two were admitted in critical condition. The deceased was the ASWJ secretary information and a resident of Baldia Town. Following the murder, scores of the ASWJ activists rushed to the hospital where they staged a protest and chanted slogans against the government failure to maintain law and order situation in the city. Meanwhile, reportedly, it has also been learnt that the ASWJ has announced offering funeral prayer of the deceased in front of Chief Ministers House today (Thursday). Tension spread through various localities of the city including Nagan Chowrangi, Shah Faisal and Orangi Town where miscreants resorted to aerial firing, forcing traders into closing their shops and business centres in these areas. It is to be noted that six people have been killed over the past three days in different incidents of sectarian killing. Two ASWJ activists including Hafiz Inamullah and Hafiz Tahir were gunned down by unknown assailants in the wee hours on Tuesday at Block-20 in the Federal B Area. The police said that the deceased Inamullah was the Imam of Masjid-e-Bilal while Tahir was the Moazin. Another activist of the ASWJ - Maulan Mushtaq alias Lala was killed in Baloch Colony area on Tuesday while two more activists including one Ghaysuddin was killed in the limits of Brigade Police and Rehan in the Shah Faisal Police precincts on Monday. According to some reports, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Waseem Ahmed has formed an inquiry committee under the supervision of DIG (South) Iqbal Mehmood and SP Amir Farooqi to probe the incidents.
