ISLAMABAD Taking notice of the issuance of 138 prohibited bore arm licences to Inter-Risk Security Company, Senate Standing Committee on Interior Saturday asked the Interior Ministry to submit report while State Minister on Interior Tasneem Qureshi was also summoned on issuing 5,986 arms licences. The committee, met under the chair of Senator Talha Mehmood, also sought the report on arm licences including prohibited and non-prohibited bore issued from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2009. It directed the officials of Interior Ministry to cancel 26,000 fake licences issued by some officials of the ministry and directed the FIA to conduct probe into the fake licenses scam. The committee was informed that 138 arms licenses were issued to Inter-Risk Security Company at a cost of $ 1,800 each. The committee expressed concern on the issue and called for providing details of Captain (R) Zaidi license scam and directed FIA to submit a complete report in this regard. Joint Secretary, Interior Shahid Ullah Baig when asked about issuance of prohibited bore licenses, informed the committee that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had the authority to issue license of prohibited bore but later he handed it over to Minister of State for Interior. Joint Secretary Interior told the committee that over 15,500 applications of prohibited bore licenses and 1,000 applications of non-prohibited bore licenses were pending in interior ministry. Answering a question, Joint Secretary said that two officers of interior ministry including Jamil Abbasi and Qadir Nawaz had issued 138 licenses of prohibited bore to Inter-Risk Security Company and they had been arrested. Inter-Risk Security Company was registered in 1991 and out of 138 licenses, 50 are on company names and 88 on names of other people, he said. During last two months, he said, 5,986 licenses of prohibited bore were issued. However, Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhari suggested that the procedure of issuance of non-prohibited bored be streamlined and provincial governments may be asked to issue such licenses through the DCOs. Taking notice of the attack on Senator Jamal Leghari, the committee asked the Ministry of Interior and DPO DG Khan to present a comprehensive report with regard to facts relating to the alleged life attempt on Senator Sardar Muhammad Jamal Khan Leghari. Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel, however, asked Ministry of Interior to provide details to the committee of the alleged militant training camps said to be operating at Balochistan-Sindh border by seeking details from provincial governments within the next 15 days. Earlier, the committee also showed concerns on the absence of concerned officials of Interior Ministry including State Minister Tasneem Qureshi. However, Joint Interior Secretary Shahid Ullah Baig told the committee that State Minister could not attend the meeting due to his busy schedule.
