Mehsuds for end to army action

PESHAWAR - The elders of Mehsud tribes in South Waziristan Agency (SWA) demanded of the government to immediately stop military operation started in their area in the name of action against miscreants. The demand was made during a jirga held under supervision of SWA Political Agent Fazl Rabi on Saturday. The elders told political agent that before getting cooperation for restoration of peace in the tribal belt, they must be compensated for the losses incurred to innocent people during military operation. They also demanded prompt withdrawal of Army from their area and asked for early opening of various routes, as their closure created different problems for local population. They alleged that during the campaign against miscreants, the houses of innocent people were demolished. The tribal elders also demanded the release of innocent persons held during Army operation and also called for increase in the ration quota for the tribal people. While assuring his full cooperation, the Political Agent told them that their problems would be resolved on priority basis and the Wana-Jandula Road would also be opened for all kinds of traffic.
