If democracy derails, masses to face dire consequences: Babar Awan

Federal Law Minister Dr. Babar Awan has said that the democratic set up would run at any cost, if it is being stopped, the masses would face its consequences. Talking to the media persons outside Punjab Assembly here on Monday, the federal minister said the conspirators from inside and outside the country are trying to derail the democracy however they would defend it with courage and bravery. He asked why only President Asif Ali Zardari is being targeted, adding that they would not cross one inch beyond its constitutional limits. Babar Awan said they in every condition would protect the parliament, president and would not allow confrontation among the institutions. He stated that PPP always supported the policy of reconciliation and would not permit the revenge to be part of the accountability. "Parliamentary party took notice of the violations of compact in Charter of Democracy (COD) particularly the appointment of person allegedly involved in the murder attempt on President at administrative post", he added. To a question, the federal minister said that they implemented over the apex court's verdict with due respect while on the other hand several judges and a government are running through stay order. He opined that they are sitting in Punjab Assembly in such a deteriorating circumstance, however they would not step back in their defence and would continue their efforts in this regard.
