PPP constantly meted out injustice: Zardari

BENAZIRABAD (Agencies) President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday vowed to protect rights of the people by foiling the conspiracies to undermine Pakistan Peoples Partys government. Speaking at the inauguration of development projects in Benazirabad district (previously known as Nawabshah), he said the dictators had always harmed the PPP but Pakistan could not afford any such jokes in future. The President said the PPP had roots in every part of Pakistan and it was name of a philosophy and ideology. The PPP had constantly faced injustice but despite all the restrictions, the party prevailed with the strength of people, he maintained. The PPP is more than the government and it is the will of the people, he said, adding, Our opponents are working to snatch the rights of oppressed in the next elections. The President said dictators and persons in uniform had played games with Pakistan in the past but they would be unable to do so any more, in an apparent reference to former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, who is trying to make a comeback in politics. Pakistan and the PPP have always borne the losses when dictators or those in uniform played games with the country. But Pakistan is not in a position that such games can be played with it, he said, adding that the party never compromised on principles. He contended that certain forces and anti-people elements were working against the PPP but his partys government was determined to complete its term. He said the PPP had always stressed on negotiations and politics of reconciliation, and even the dictator was forced to accept Benazir Bhutto as a martyr. He said unlike others they were not afraid of mosquitoes of jail. He lamented that their opponents were trying to stay in the headlines of next day instead of raising their stature as political leaders. But people forget these headlines, he said, adding that he wanted to tread the path of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who preferred not to live in palaces as he wanted to stay alive in the annals of history. He said Pakistan had involved international community in dialogue and was getting more market access and aid than ever before. The President said the PPP successfully tackled difficult situation, including the worst floods in countrys history, during the last three years. He said the PPP government foresaw problems and gave rights to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and apologised for the wrongs committed against Balochistan. Some forces are using glitter to undermine the PPP but like Bhutto and Benazir, who stood up against the undemocratic forces, I would do the same, he resolved. Terming the people as the real power of the country, he said whenever they got a chance they elected the PPP to govern, as they were fully aware of the fact that it was the only party, which had always struggled for their rights and welfare. The PPP always comes into powers with the support of masses even when the elections were conducted by the opponents who never desired to see the party in power, he mentioned. The President said keeping in view the challenges being faced by the country, the PPP formed a coalition government not only in the centre but also in the provinces with the aim that all democratic forces should pool their contribution for ensuring progress of the country. He urged all democratic forces to work for the countrys betterment, strengthening democracy and welfare of the masses.
