Former President Pervez Musharraf says he plans to return to Pakistan to run for Parliament in 2013 after founding a new political party. Musharraf told the BBC in an interview Friday that he believes he will have more international standing if he wins office as a civilian. He hopes to become either prime minister or president. "At this moment we see darkness all over in Pakistan," he said. "We have to show light, we have to show an alternative, a viable alternative where the people see light and gain some confidence." He rejected existing political parties. "A time has come in Pakistan when we need to introduce a new political culture, a culture which can take Pakistan forward on a democratic path, on a correct democratic path, not on an artificial, make-believe democratic path," he said. The former president, who now lives in London, said he realizes he might be in danger of assassination or arrest if he returns to Pakistan.
