ISLAMABAD Foreign Office on Wednesday refuted media reports of one-on-one meeting between Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former President Pervez Musharraf at Abu Dhabi. A spokesman for Foreign office said that the Foreign Minister had visited Abu Dhabi only to attend a meeting of Special Representatives for Afghanistan and Pakistan and no coincidental or scheduled meeting held there between Qureshi and Musharraf. PPI adds: Meanwhile, Indian External Affairs Minister (EAM) S.M. Krishna made a telephone call to Shah Mahmood Qureshi to convey good wishes to him for the New Year. The Foreign Minister also reciprocated similar sentiments. The Foreign Minister said despite challenges that our two countries confronted, Pakistan wanted to have a cooperative relationship with India as both our countries stood to gain from a sustained engagement. He stressed that how useful the Composite Dialogue had been in achieving incremental progress towards resolving bilateral issues to our mutual advantage. Qureshi underlined that Pakistan itself was the major victim of terrorism. The government and the people of Pakistan were determined to eliminate this menace once and for all. He also updated EAM Krishna about the Mumbai trial in Pakistan stressing that Pakistan was doing its best to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice. The Foreign Minister raised the issue of the recent statements by the Indian Army Chief saying that such jingoistic statements were uncalled-for and served only to vitiate the bilateral atmosphere. The two leaders agreed that the recent visit of Pakistans National Assembly Speaker to India was a positive development. The Foreign Minister suggested to revive the dormant India-Pakistan Parliamentary Forum as soon as possible. The Foreign Minister also referred to Pakistans unilateral decision to release 100 Indian fishermen underscoring that the Joint Judicial Committee on Prisoners should be convened and allowed to fulfil its mandate. Meanwhile, Qureshi denied he had met with former President Musharraf in Dubai.
