Militants have destroyed another girls' school by detonating explosives in Mohmand Agency, local sources said Monday. Earlier this month, a girls' school was razed to rubbles in a bomb blast that also partially damaged a Basic Health Unit in Mohmand. That makes a total of 48 schools destroyed by militants in the restive Mohmand tribal agency so far. Hundreds of schools, mostly girls' ones, have been destroyed by Taliban militants across the Federally Administered Tribal Areas ( FATA) effecting the education of hundreds of thousands of children, as Pakistani security forces are fighting to wipe the rugged mountainous region bordering Afghanistan clean of militancy and extremism. Over 200 schools were destroyed in the Swat valley during the past couple of years while two female teachers were shot dead in Bajaur tribal agency last year by oxymoron Taliban attempting to impose a self-assumed ultra orthodox version of Islam in the region. The United States Aid (USAID) had pumped in over 3.9 billion U. S. dollars since reopening of the mission in Pakistan in 2002 for the socio-economic sector including education with emphasis on education and development in the tribal areas. The USAID has also announced last month an assistance of 45 million dollars to support higher education in Pakistan.
