CJ resolves seniority issue of new judges

ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Abdul Hameed Dogar has resolved the seniority issue of the judges who were recently restored. "Through an order, the Chief Justice gave the same seniority to the restored judges, they were enjoying before their sacking on November 3, 2007 by former President Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf. The chief justice also allotted separate chambers to them as per their seniority," a senior officer of the Supreme Court told TheNation.   Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, who had taken fresh oath, was given No 2 position after Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar, Justice Tassaduq Hussain No 4 and Justice Jamshed Ali is enjoying No 6 position according to seniority. After the restoration of deposed judges, Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar is now enjoying second position after Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and he will be the next chief justice after the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice. After Justice Khokhar, Justice Shakirullah Jam comes on No 2 position, Justice M Javed Butter No 3, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani No 4, Justice Syed Saeed Ashad No 5 and Justice Jamshed Ali No 6. Justice Abdul Hameed Doghar also appointed the newly restored five judges as heads of the Supreme Court benches. According to the order, Justice Shakirullah Jam will head bench No 2, Justice Jamshed Ali bench No 4. These both benches are working in Islamabad. While Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jilani was appointed as head of the bench set up in Lahore Registry. Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Doghar also allotted separate chambers to the newly restored judges as chamber No 2 was allotted to Justice Shakirullah Jan No 2, Chamber No 2 to Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani and Chamber 6 was allotted to Justice Jamshed Ali. The officer of the Supreme Court further said that some judges who are not present in Islamabad, therefore, their luggage remained inside their chambers and new chambers have been allotted to them by changing their chambers' numbers according to their seniority. The officer said that there was no difference in the chambers of these judges but their numbers were allotted according to their seniority.
