ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday announced to hold the by-elections on all vacant seats including three seats of National Assembly and two Punjab Assembly constituencies on November 7. On the hearing of a petition field by Sheikh Rashid, demanding holding of by-election in the constituency NA-55, the Chief Election Commissioner directed the Punjab government to complete the security arrangements for the purpose, a private TV channel reported. Sheikh Rashid arrived at the ECP accompanied by Amir Fida Paracha. After the hearing, a statement was issued announcing the by-elections on vacant seats on November 7 while the schedule would be announced later. According to announcement, the vacant seat include NA-55 of Rawalpindi, NA-123 of Lahore and NA-271 of Kharan; similarly, PP-82 of Jhang and PP-284 of Bahawalnagar. Awami Muslim League President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said election process would be completed after Eid. Chief Election Commissioner Hamid Raza heard the petition. Sheikh Rashid had filed a petition in the ECP in which he took the stance citing the laws of Election Commission that ECP is entitled to hold election on any vacant seat within 60 days. Therefore, he demanded of ECP to hold by-election in constituency NA-55 as soon as possible. It is worth mentioning that the constituency was vacated by PML-N Leader Haji Pervez Khan after he had tendered resignation due to which ECP had postponed by-election in view of the law and order situation.
