Agri-loans, utility bills to be waived in quake-hit areas: PM

Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani Monday said the government will compensate Rs2.9 billion loss caused to property by the devastating earthquake in Balochistan while agricultural loans and utility bills of the affected areas will be written off after assessment. He said this while addressing the people here in Vaam after visiting the earthquake-affected areas. The Prime Minister flanked by Governor Balochistan Zulfiqar Magsi and Chief Minister, Aslam Raisani was given detailed briefing on the devastation caused by the earthquake and the relief and rehabilitation activities being carried out in the affected areas. The Premier said in order to avoid any politicization of the matter, the Army and Frontier Corps were tasked with the estimation of the damages unleashed by the tremor. He said the estimation puts the total loss at Rs2.9 billion. "The loss will be compensated and the victims provided relief by undertaking reconstruction in the affected areas," the Prime Minister assured. He said the deprivation of the people of Balochistan will be addressed through the policy of reconciliation. The mineral and agriculture sectors of Balochistan will be developed while industries will also be set up in the province, he added.
