ISLAMABAD - Host of issues came under discussion between the visiting ISAF commander in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal, and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, here on Monday. According to official sources, the visiting dignitary who remained with the Chief of Army Staff for some time discussed the matters of professional interests. However, diplomatic sources said that General McChrystal discussed at length the issues relating to presidential elections in Afghanistan and Telibans threats to disrupt the polls. Sources further said that ISAF commander also discussed the arrival of more US troops in Afghanistan as well as efforts to establish a Natos regional headquarters in Afghanistan. ISAF commander, sources said, had highly acclaimed the role of Pakistan Army in counter-terrorism and its recent successes in Swat and Malakand division. General McChrystal expressed his satisfaction over deployment of large number of Pakistani troops on Pak-Afghan border to help stop cross-border movements. He also expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements and establishment of a large number of check posts at the border. The visit of the ISAF commander is to promote mutual cooperation between Pakistan and the Allied Forces.
