ECP summons 15 MPs in fake degree cases

Islamabad The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned fifteen sitting MPs to hear the cases of their fake degrees today (Monday). According to the ECP sources, three parliamentarians called by the Election Commission belonged to the National Assembly, one from the Balochistan Assembly and eleven from the Punjab Assembly. Among the 11 parliamentarians called from the Punjab Assembly, eight were women who had been elected on the reserved seats. Those summoned include three MNAs, 11 MPAs of Punjab Assembly and one from Balochistan Assembly. MNAs include, Hayatullah Tareen, Ghulam Dastagir Rajar and Mazhar Hayat. Punjab Assembly members summoned, include, Samina Khawar Hayat, Ejaz Ahmad, Afshan Farooqi, Mir Badshah Qaisarani, Safdar Gul, Naseem Nasir, Khawaja Shumaila Rana, Seema Kamran, Farah Deeba, Majida Zaidi, Saima Aziz and Baloch MPA Muhammad Khan. Sources said that seven MPs have been summoned for October 21 and nine for October 25. Sources further said that that fake degree cases of 58 MPs provided by Higher Education Commission (HEC) would be resolved till October 25. The ECP in collaboration with the HEC has started scrutiny of the academic degrees of the sitting MPs following the directives of the Supreme Court. The ECP after thoroughly ascertaining the facts is likely to refer the fake degree cases of the sitting MPs for trial to the respective district and session judges.
