PESHAWAR - At least five persons were killed and 25 others got injured as a powerful blast rocked a CD market in Neshtar Abad, area of Peshawar, on Monday. The police had been unable to ascertain the cause of the blast till filing of this story, however some reports suggested that it was a suicide blast. The police said investigators initially suspected that the bomb had been planted in a motorbike, as the bike few yard away from the CD market had caught huge fire. The blast site is located in a congested residential area, where the people frequently visit for refreshment. The blast resulted in damage to several vehicles and motorcycles, while the windowpanes of the nearby houses were also shattered. Soon after the blast, rescue vehicles and Edhi ambulances rushed towards the site and shifted the injured persons to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. Some of the injured are stated to be in critical condition, while some have been discharged from the hospital after emergency treatment. The Fire Brigade staff and rescue ambulances were also busy extinguishing fire and rescuing the injured persons. Police and Bomb Disposal Squad also immediately cordoned off the area. They said the actual target of the blast was CD Centre, which received threats from militants. It is worth mentioning here that Taliban attacked CD shops in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa many times. They first issued warning letters and then attacked the CD centres for not following their instructions.
