SHIEKHUPURA (APP) - DSP Nankana Sahib Ashiq Marth was shot dead at his native village in Gojra on Sunday. DSP Gojra City Abid Khan said that Ashiq Marth, who had been recently suspended, was sitting at his Dera when the accused M Iqbal riding a motorcycle came there and opened fire at him. He died on the spot. Monitoring Desk adds: DPO Toba Tek Singh Rana Iqbal told BBC that a person identified as Iqbal alias Bala gunned down Ashiq Marth in Gojra. He said that an old enmity between two rival groups was behind the murder and a number of people had already been killed due to this enmity. Ashiq Marth had also investigated into the case of killing of 100 children in Lahore. He also remained the investigator in a narcotics case against PPP Co-Chairman Asif Zardari during the government of Nawaz Sharif in 1997. The case was registered in the light of a statement given by a prisoner Arif Baloch who alleged that Asif Zardari was involved in the smuggling of narcotics. The other accused in this case are Arif Baloch and Shorang Khan. However, Shorang died a few years ago. This is the only case which is still under in the court whereas all other cases against Zardari had been withdrawn in recent days.
