ANP MPA injured in roadside bomb blast

PESHAWAR Another lawmaker of Awami National Party, Aurangzeb Khan, and four others were injured when a remote-controlled bomb hit his vehicle here at Ring Road on Wednesday. The bomb exploded with a big bang when Aurangzeb Khan was going to his office along with his personal staff. The blast left Aurangzeb, his driver, security guard and two passers-by injured. Apparently, ANP leader was the main target. According to eyewitness, the bomb was planted under a culvert at a road leading towards the residence of Aurangzeb Khan. The blast also damaged his car completely and the main power supply line of the city as well. However, all the five persons including Aurangzeb Khan were immediately shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. According to doctors report, the MPA and other injured persons are out of danger, however, Aurangzeb went through a minor operation of his left arm. Meanwhile, security forces cordoned off the area, while bomb disposal squad rushed towards the site of blast and collected evidence. According to eyewitness, the explosion was heard at the distance of 10 to 12 kilometres away from the site. Besides, the explosion has left a 7-feet deep crater at the site of the blast. Officials of the bomb disposal squad said that around three to four kilograms explosive material was used in the blast. It is worth mentioning here that Aurangzeb was elected from FP-1, Peshawar, after his brother Alamzeb Khan, former MPA, was killed in a terrorist attack on February 11, last year. Talking to media men, the DCO Peshawar Sahibzada Anees said that it was a targeted attack. He said security had been put on high alert in the city. At least 300 workers and two MPAs of the ANP have been killed during the last two years in the various parts of the province.
