LAHORE - PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has stressed the need of utilising the force of national unity, solidarity and parliament to meet both internal and external challenges faced by the country and such decision can be taken only by making parliament sovereign and independent. He said the goal of national solidarity could be reached by creating national harmony at the behest of decisions made by a free and independent parliament. Talking to daily Nawa-i-Waqt in connection with the birthday of Benazir Bhutto, he paid glowing tribute to the late BB for her services to the nation and for democracy. He said had Benazir been alive today, he was sure that the parliament would have been independent and the sate institutions strong as a result of implementation of Charter of Democracy. BB remained active for the freedom of judiciary, supremacy of parliament, preservation of national interests and true democracy till her last breath, he said. The former premier said political solution to all the problems was key to stability of the country. He emphasized the need of thinking in terms of the nation only keeping all personal and political interests aside. Terming the trend of terrorism and extremism as a threat, he said those who were involved in such activities were not well-wishers of the country and that they should be brought to justice. He further said the country would have been on way to prosperity and solidarity had the Charter of Democracy, signed by Benazir, been put into actual practice.
