Five militants and one khasadar killed in Khyber Agency

At least five militants were killed in a gunfight while one Khassadar Force personnel also died and five others sustained injuries in two separate incidents of gunfight and bomb blast in Jamrud and Sarband areas of Khyber Agency on Wednesday. According to details, around 30 militants armed with automatic weapons and machine guns rocked Sarband Police Check-post in the wee hours, inflicting injuries on two police personnel. The attack was repulsed by the police personnel immediately and killed at least five insurgents in the retaliatory fire. The injured police personnel were shifted to hospital for medical treatment. Police claimed that bodies of the insurgent killed in the cross-fire were in police custody. The insurgents fled away from Sarband check-post that lies just outside tehsil Bara of Khyber Agency, into tribal region. Extra-contingents of police arrived at the spot and cordoned off the entire area to nab the culprits. In yet another incident, militants planted remote control device with the Khassadar check-post in tehsil Jamrud of Khyber Agency which went off with a big bang, killing a Khassadar Force personnel and inflicting injuries on three others. The injured Khassadar Force personnel were shifted to hospital for treatment. The check-post which was hit by the planted bomb was also destroyed. Local police and government officials confirmed the attack and death toll of the dual attacks. Armed forces had been active against the insurgents in the tribal region since government had joined Nato alliance but bomb blasts and attacks on security forces check-posts in the settled districts of Pakistan were expected as possible repercussions of the war on terror.
