Lt Gen Javed Zia on Saturday assumed responsibility as Corps Commander Quetta and Commander Southern Command. According to military sources, former Corps Commander Lt Gen Khalid Shamim Wayne in a simple but impressive ceremony held at Southern Command Headquarter handed over the Southern commander command to Lt Gen Javed Zia. Khalid Shamim Wayne has been appointed as Chief of General Staff and he would assume his responsibilities at the GHQ Rawalpindi after 15 days. On May 3 new corps commanders of Lahore and Mangla would also assume their responsibilities, as Lt Gen Ijaz and Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed would retire in the first week of May.
