Moin Akhtar laid to rest

KARACHI - Thousands of mourners laid legendary actor Moin Akhtar to rest in Model Colony graveyard on Saturday. Former singer Junaid Jamshed led the funeral prayer of the great artist after Zohar prayers in Toheed mosque of Malir Cantt. People from all walks of lives including actors, politicians, relatives of the deceased and social workers attended the funeral. Moin had passed away at CMH on Friday due to cardiac arrest at the age of 61. The actor was at his home when he felt pain in the chest and was immediately rushed to the CMH where doctors pronounced him dead. He was the best comedian, impersonator and a host. Moin Akhter started his career from a TV show on Sept 6, 1966. He performed in several roles in TV plays/shows. Some of his memorable roles like Roozi, Dollar Man, 47, Half Plate, Family-93, Eid Train and Bandar Road Se Kemari made him a legendary actor. Expressing grief over his death, showbiz personalities including Umar Sharif, Talat Hussain, Shabir Jan, Shakil, Qavi Khan, Tehseen Jaweed, Shehzad Raza, Shakil Siddiqui, Rasuf Lala, Zeba Shehnaz, Bushra Ansari and many others said his death was a national tragedy. The unexpected demise of Moin had created a huge gap that could not be bridged at all, they said. President Asif Zardari, PM Yousuf Raza Gilani, Altaf Hussain, Firdous Ashique Awan, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Nisar Khorro, Rashid Rabbani and a large number of prominent political figures expressed deep sorrow and grief over the unexpected death of the great actor.
