Six members of a suspected al Qaeda-linked group were seized with explosives, suicide vests and explosives and heroin from this southern city of Punjab here Monday, a private TV reported. DPO Sargodha informed the newsmen that the detainees, including one trainer and five would-be suicide bombers, belong to Tehreek-e-Taliban Punjab and were involved in heinous crimes, including various terrorist attacks in the province, murders and kidnapping for ransom. He said that the raid in Karachi foiled planned terrorist attacks. It also gave new information on how drugs fund militancy in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. The DPO said the suspects were the members of the banned group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. The group is suspected in a failed assassination attempt on Pakistan's former president and in the beheading of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Police say they seized three suicide vests, 33 pounds (15 kilograms) of explosives and about 4.5 pounds (2 kilograms) of heroin in the raid Sunday.
