ISLAMABAD - The US Embassy in Islamabad has come up with a new media management strategy designed to pave way for obtaining the custody of Raymond Davis, diplomatic sources told The Nation on Wednesday. The sources privy to these developments maintained that the US-based leading media icons have designed the new strategy envisaging techniques that could help counter the growing anti-American sentiments in Pakistan. Part of these techniques is to leak Raymond Davis-related information to western and Pakistani media. The sources were of the view that the US medias breaking news about an important meeting of US Ambassador Cameron Munter with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar here the other day was a part of the same strategy. The sources said this was the way that the US embassy had stopped disseminating important information on its website for the local media. On Wednesday, the US embassy also arranged a background briefing with a lawyer for selected media persons in which he had warned that the US government would take the Raymond Davis case to the International Court of Justice if the Pakistani government failed in giving his custody under the Vienna Convention. The sources quoted him as saying that Raymond Davis had diplomatic immunity under Vienna Convention and he could not be arrested or tried by any Pakistani court. In a related development, the Foreign Office is still busy examining the matter related to Raymond Davis and upbeat to certify his status before the next date of hearing in Lahore High Court on March 14. The US embassy is continue keeping mum over the issue of custody of driver and the vehicle of the US Consulate Lahore used in aid to Raymond Davis and killed Ibaidur Rehman.
