ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Islamabad is committed to support the just struggle of Kashmiris and wants to see the peaceful solution of the dispute according to the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. "We will continue to extend political, diplomatic and moral support to the cause of Kashmiris until a just and honourable settlement of dispute is reached as per the wishes of Kashmiri people," the Prime Minister Monday said while talking to the delegation of All Parties Hurriat Conference (APHC) led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The other members of the delegation included Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat, Bilal Ghani Lone, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Professor Sarraf and Yousuf Naseem. Later the delegation also visited Zardari House to condole the assassination of Pakistan People's Party's life chairperson Benazir Bhutto with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. The delegation discussed with him the prevailing political situation in the region with special reference to the ongoing freedom struggle in occupied Kashmir. They also thanked Zardari for extending unflinching support to the cause of Kashmiri people. The Premier said that Kashmir was the core issue between the two countries and Pakistan would never accept any solution of the issue that would be unacceptable for the people of Kashmir. The Prime Minister said Pakistan was convinced that any settlement that did not have the backing of the Kashmiri people could not be durable and sustainable. The Premier said, "We look at the struggle by the Kashmiris with great admiration and their untold sacrifices for a just solution of the Kashmir dispute will not go in vain." The Prime Minister said that during his recent meeting with US President George W Bush, he took up the Kashmir issue with him and the latter agreed that the time had come to resolve the issue. He said he also discussed the Kashmir issue in detail with the Indian Foreign Minister during his visit to Pakistan and impressed upon the need to resolve it in keeping with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The Chairman APHC Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that Kashmiris had been beholding to Pakistan and its people for their consistent support for the cause of Kashmir since 1947. He said their struggle would not have been recognised internationally without the support of Pakistan. He said that Kashmiris' struggle remained strong as no less than over 0.45 million troops were still deployed in Kashmir. He said the APHC leadership was highly appreciative that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had invited them to visit Pakistan soon after the formation of the new government in Pakistan. He said that he had carefully gone through the various statements made by the Prime Minister on Kashmir and expressed satisfaction over them. Mirwaiz also expressed his deep condolence over the tragic martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto, which he said, was a great loss not only for Pakistan but also for the people of Kashmir. He said that it was during Benazir's government that APHC got Observer's status in the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC). He said the elections were going to be held in Kashmir in coming September, adding that the APHC didn't recognise elections as a substitute to their right of self-determination. He said the APHC supported the peace process between Pakistan and India and the CBMs being taken by the two countries. He however emphasised the need to accelerate this process in order to reach a just solution of the Kashmir dispute. He also informed the Prime Minister of the efforts being made by the APHC to forge unity in its ranks. Professor Abdul Ghulam Bhat also thanked the Prime Minister for Pakistan's support for the cause of Kashmir and said that the APHC supported a peaceful step-by-step approach to resolve the Kashmir dispute on a permanent basis. Senior officials of the Foreign Ministry were also present in the meeting. In its meeting with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, the APHC delegation condoled the assassination of Benazir and termed it as a great loss not only for Pakistan but also for the people of Kashmir and the entire Muslim world. They also offered Fateha for the soul of late Benazir. At the insistence of Asif Zardari, Fateha was also offered for the Kashmiri martyrs. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq paid rich tributes to late Benazir Bhutto while recalling her association with the OIC Contact Group and in giving recognition to the APHC at the OIC summit in Casablanca in mid 90s. The two sides discussed issues relating to the resolution of Kashmir dispute. A joint declaration was also issued at the end of the meeting. Recalling that late Benazir established relations between the APHC and the PPP, the joint declarations stated that the relationship would not only be maintained but also further strengthened in the years to come. It said that both the PPP and the APHC would take steps to promote people to people contacts between the Kashmiri people living on both sides of the Line of Control. Initially visits of delegations of students, youth, lawyers, businessmen, political leaders and parliamentarians would be arranged to promote greater people to people contacts, the joint declaration said. The joint declaration reaffirmed that the APHC was the representative body of the Kashmiris and reiterated its support to the people of Kashmir in their struggle. It also stressed the need for holding joint consultations for efforts aimed at finding a just solution of the Kashmir dispute.
