MQM eyes share in Punjab's political pool

LAHORE MQM, in a bid to get its share from Punjabs 'political pool, is going to stage a show of force through its conventions in major cities of the province on Sunday (today), while these conventions will also determine the fate of national political character of the MQM. Punjab, which plays an important role for any political force of the country to form or sustain its government at the Centre, as it is commonly believed that the one, who commands Punjab, virtually controls the reins of power at the Federal Capital. Keeping in view the political importance of Punjab and to accomplish its campaign for giving a national character to the party, the MQM leadership has been attaching top priority to Punjab from day one and the present MQM conventions are a part of the same drive. MQM (Muhajir Qaumi Movement), which came into existence as an ethnic party that represented the Urdu-speaking (Muhajir) community of the urban centres of the Sindh, later strived to convert the faction into a national political party. It was renamed as Mutahidda Qaumi Movement and now the MQM leadership had initiated a countrywide drive to accomplish its plans for making the MQM a national political party. In this regard, the MQM leadership started a campaign to make its political grip in all the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in which it succeeded to get some share in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while its efforts in Punjab have so far remained futile due to its alleged involvement in May 12 mayhem in Karachi. The MQM conventions in Punjab today will be its second round of endeavour regarding its foothold in the most important province of the country after the May 12 incident. The MQM conventions in Punjab will also determine its political future in the politically vital province of the country, as the major leaders of MQM have been preparing for this event for the last couple of months and putting in all their efforts to make their 'Punjab Show successful. However, the real force to make the MQM show successful, is people of Punjab and finally they will determine the political future of the MQM in Punjab. Meanwhile, all arrangements have been given final shape for holding the MQM conventions at Alhamra Hall in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi. The main feature of the day will be the live telephonic address of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain. MQM Chief Altaf Hussain will address all the conventions at the same time in which he will highlight the party agenda especially for the people of Punjab. Besides, MQM Chiefs address, other party leaders including Deputy Convener, Dr Farooq Sattar, Mustafa Kamal, Faisal Sabzwari and others will also address the conventions. MQM central leadership and members of its Rabita Committee have already reached the provincial metropolis to inspect the arrangements and in this regard they also held detailed meeting with the government officials and with the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif. It may be mentioned here that the MQM leadership had requested for holding their convention at Minar-e-Pakistan but they were refused for security reasons. The City was decorated with beautiful and colourful banners and buntings and in this regard the hoardings were also fixed at the different parts of the provincial metropolis not only to attract the people but also to spread the message of the MQM for the people of Punjab to trust in MQM while rejecting those political forces that have repeatedly deceived them. Similarly, the arrangements have also been finalised on the other two venues where the MQM Convention will be held. These venues were also decorated with colourful banners, buntings, party flags and big hoardings of Altaf Hussain. On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also directed the police officials to ensure the comprehensive security arrangements for all the three MQM conventions in the province. In the light of the CMs directives, the police and other provincial agencies have made foolproof security plan for the three MQM conventions.
