Court not empowered to amend constitution: Asfandyar Wali

Chief of Awami National Party Asfandyar Wali has said the confrontation among the institutions can be avoided if the executive, the parliament and judiciary function in their respective jurisdictions. Addressing a gathering in Peshawar, Wali who has been a member of the ruling coalition, said the constitution has set the jurisdictions of the executive, the parliament and the judiciary. He questioned why the ordinance that was already lapsed needed a court verdict. Wali said the court have no powers to amend the constitution. He said legislation is the function of the parliament, while its interpretation comes into the ambit of the court. He reiterated that the government will enforce the Supreme Court verdicts.
